Indonesia cools 8 hotspots in Mount Bromo after active fires put out - ANTARA News Kalimantan Selatan

Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - Joint teams tackling forest and land fires in the Mount Bromo area are focusing on cooling and wetting eight hotspots after detecting no new active fires.

Speaking in Mount Bromo, East Java, on Friday, Korem 083/Baladhika Jaya Forest and Land Fire Response Sector Commander Colonel Inf. Wahyu Ramadhanus Suryawan said the eight hotspots targeted for cooling and wetting are located in Probolinggo and Pasuruan districts.

"In our latest situation update, we have not found any active fires. We are monitoring eight hotspots and conducting cooling and wetting operations, with two around Seruni Point in Probolinggo and six in Pasuruan," Suryawan said.

He stated that the cooling operations aim to prevent embers from burnt vegetation from reigniting.

Ground personnel and aerial water-bombing helicopters are carrying out the operations through a two-pronged approach.

At least six water-bombing sorties were planned for Friday, Suryawan said, though execution remains subject to weather conditions, particularly fog.

Joint teams were also tasked with clearing areas previously affected by the blaze.

"Personnel remain deployed across the area to monitor and search for active fires, while aerial monitoring continues directly from above," he said.

Joint teams have also intensified public outreach and education for residents and tourists to prevent future forest fires.

"These operations will continue over the coming days, combining patrols to spot potential fires with public information and education," Suryawan said.

The team coordinates continuously with the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Office regarding safety conditions and recommendations on reopening the tourist site.

"Once conditions are declared safe, we will recommend reopening the national park's tourist area," he said.

The area affected by the Mount Bromo forest fire was estimated at approximately 1,120.2 hectares on the 12th day of firefighting operations.
