Guruh Soekarnoputra to be buried next to Fatmawati - ANTARA News Jawa Timur

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Mohammad Guruh Irianto Soekarnoputra, the youngest son of Indonesia's first President Soekarno and Fatmawati, will be buried next to his mother Fatmawati's grave at Karet Bivak Public Cemetery in Jakarta.

Secretary General of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan), Hasto Kristiyanto, said the timing of his burial will be discussed by the family.

"For now, the body is still being laid in state," Kristiyanto said at the funeral home here on Saturday.

Kristiyanto said PDI Perjuangan feels a profound sense of loss over Soekarnoputra's passing.

The Indonesia's fifth President and PDI Perjuangan Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is also Guruh Soekarnoputra's sister, had shown great care and affection since he was hospitalised.

Megawati Soekarnoputri had also given directions and held detailed discussions with the specialist doctors treating Guruh Soekarnoputra.

For that reason, Kristiyanto said, the PDI Perjuangan family, from the entire Central Executive Board (DPP) down to the smallest branch units, wished to pay their highest respects to Soekarnoputra as a great artist, party fighter, and Marhaenist figure who left his mark on Indonesia's social and cultural life.

"This is through Guruh's extraordinary work as well as his contributions to PDI Perjuangan," he said.

Guruh Soekarnoputra passed away on Saturday at 4:16 a.m. local time, at the age of 73, at MRCCC Siloam Hospital Semanggi in Jakarta.

Guruh Soekarnoputra was widely known as an Indonesian artist and politician, who served as a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) from 1992-1997 and 1999-2024.

He was the youngest son of Indonesia's first President Soekarno and Fatmawati and a sibling of Indonesia's fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri.

Guruh Soekarnoputra was born in Jakarta on January 13, 1953, and was married to Guseynova Sabina Padmavati, an Uzbekistan woman, from 2002 to 2009.

From a young age, Guruh Soekarnoputra trained as a dancer and honed his talent in music, eventually founding the Indonesian arts group Gencar Semarak Perkasa (GSP) Production and Swara Mahardhika.

Guruh Soekarnoputra also co-founded the music groups Guruh Gipsy and Gank Pegangsaan, alongside Keenan Nasution, Abadi Soesman, and Chrisye. He wrote "Kala Sang Surya Tenggelam", a famous song sung by Chrisye.
