Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation is strengthening its civil aviation safety oversight through a technical partnership with the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) to build a sustainable, international-standard monitoring system.Director General of Civil Aviation Lukman F. Laisa stated that cooperation between Indonesia and France has been active since 2019 under a Technical Cooperation Agreement (TCA) covering inspector competency, standardization, and quality management.

"Entering 2026, this cooperation moves into a new phase focused on building a sustainable oversight system," Lukman said in a statement, Saturday.

The Directorate General hosted the 11th Steering Committee Meeting for Civil Aviation Technical Cooperation alongside the DGAC in Jakarta on Wednesday, Sept. 16.

The session was attended by representatives from the DGAC, technical experts, and Airbus, led by Senior Vice President of Airbus Aviation Safety Yannick Malinge.

Key technical areas under the partnership include specific approvals  for low-visibility operations, Safety Management System (SMS) assessments, risk management, personnel licensing procedures, and the refinement of Indonesia's State Safety Programme.

"Through this cooperation, we hope both civil aviation authorities can continue sharing knowledge and expertise, making our safety oversight capacity more competent, standardized, risk-based, coordinated, and sustainable," Lukman remarked.

While the upcoming audit is a key milestone, Lukman stressed that maintaining safety oversight remains an ongoing institutional responsibility.

Thibaut Lallemand, Director of Asia-Pacific Cooperation at France's DGAC, commended the constructive progress across all priority areas, noting that the insights gained must be fully embedded to build lasting institutional capacity.
